Esteban A. is 35 years old, single and has no children. “The main reason to enter FIELD was to learn English and find a better job. Before entering FIELD I worked tying grapes vines making $ 6.75 an hour [California’s minimum wage]. In addition to the English training, at FIELD I have also taken rose training, first aid/CPR, grape training and forklift training. FIELD has greatly benefited me because I can communicate better with people who speak English. I have hope that I will be able to find a better job with the training that FIELD has offered and provided for me. Especially the English classes because learning English is a way to improve myself. My recommendation for other people who are serious about learning is that they come to FIELD and learn about all the different programs they offer. The English language is very important and necessary for one to move forward in this country.”
Esperanza C. “It’s been approximately 3 years since I’ve arrived in this country without being able to speak a single word of English. I arrived like we all do, with the American dream in mind into the land of opportunity. The only thing that I wanted to do was to work and I achieved it. I have worked in various industries such as grapes, oranges, potatoes, cotton, carrots, almonds and apples. As time passed I realized that without speaking English I would not improve my life, and that is not what I wanted. In Mexico I attended up to the 9th grade. Actually I am currently in FIELD’s VESL level 2 class and my goals are to graduate from this class so I can get a better job and earn a better salary. My long range career goal is to work as a social worker and to be able to help agricultural workers like myself. My greatest benefit that FIELD has offered me is that I lost my fear of speaking English in front of people. The other benefits are all the trainings that I have received such as forklift, pesticides, roses and first-aid/CPR. I recommend this program to people. Thanks to FIELD, one day I will accomplish all of my goals. With FIELD, “Si se puede”!
Alfredo G. is 43 yrs old, married and has two children. “The reason I entered FIELD was because I wanted to learn English to get a better job and salary. I also would like to proceed in education to receive my G.E.D. Before entering FIELD I was working in grapes making $6.75 an hr. I was attending the adult school but I preferred to participate in FIELD’s program. My employment goal is to get a better job with better benefits and salary, like a foreman. At FIELD I have learned more English in the past ten weeks than I have in all of my life. I feel that I have more confidence speaking English with in the community and with my children. I would highly advice other people to attend FIELD training because they can have a great opportunity to learn English, they also can improve their abilities speaking English in their Job”.
Elizabeth S. “I went to school in Mexico until the 5th grade. I was not able to continue in school because my parents did not have enough money. I am now 28 years old and I realize it is never too late to return back to school. I did not have that opportunity when I was a young girl. I am interested in studying and I want to continue my studies with the FIELD program. I am married and I have two beautiful children. I entered the FIELD program two months ago to learn English so that I can better myself. I also want to learn so I can help my children with their homework. I would also like to become a citizen of the United States. I was previously working for a carrot packing plant and for a grape packing plant, making minimum wage. I like hard work but my jobs are not permanent. I really want my life to change for myself and for my family. My goal is to find a better job with a company that is permanent, full-time and has benefits. The best thing about FIELD's program is that I can now communicate in English and that I am no longer afraid to try to speak in English. I recommend FIELD’s program to everybody so that they can also come out ahead in life and so they can also have a better future.

Esteban A. tiene 35 años, es soltero y no tiene niños. “La razón principal por la que entré a FIELD fué la de aprender Inglés para conseguir un mejor trabajo. Antes de entrar a FIELD trabajé atando viñedos de uvas y ganando $6.75 por hora [la paga mínima de California]. Además del Inglés, en FIELD he recibido entrenamiento en cultivo de rosas y uvas, primeros auxilios y manejo de montacargas. FIELD me ha beneficiado a mi tremendamente porque ahora me puedo comunicar mejor con la gente que habla Inglés. Espero que pueda conseguir un mejor trabajo con los entrenamientos que FIELD me ha ofrecido. Mi recomendación para otra gente que están serios acerca de aprender es que vengan a FIELD y aprendan acerca de todos los programas de entrenamiento que se ofrecen. El Inglés es muy importante y necesario para que uno pueda salir adelante en este país.”
Esperanza C. “Han pasado aproximadamente 3 años desde que llegué a este país sin poder hablar una palabra en Ingles. Mi llegada aquí, como la de muchos de nosotros, fué con la idea de lograr el Sueño Americano en esta tierra de oportunidades. Lo único que yo quería era trabajar y así lo logre. He trabajado en varias industrias como la de las uvas, naranjas, papas, algodón, zanahorias, almendras y manzanas. A medida que pasó el tiempo me dí cuenta que sin poder hablar Inglés no podría mejorar mi vida, y eso no es lo que yo quería. En Méjico yo atendí a la escuela hasta el 9no grado. Actualmente estoy en el Segundo nivel del programa de Inglés Vocacional en FIELD y mis metas son la de graduarme de esta clase de manera tal que pueda alcanzar un mejor trabajo con una mejor paga. Mi meta a largo plazo es la de convertirme en una Trabajadora Social y poder ayudar a los trabajadores agrícolas de una manera directa. Mi mayor beneficio que he obtenido de FIELD es que he perdido el temor de hablar en Inglés al frente de otras personas. Los otros beneficios son los entrenamientos que he recibido tales como Manejo de Montacargas, Pesticidas, Rosas y Primeros Auxilios. Yo le recomiendo este programa a otras personas. Gracias a FIELD, algún día lograré todas mis metas. Con FIELD, “si se puede.”

A mí también me gustaría continuar con mi educación para recibir el GED. Antes de entrar a FIELD trabajaba en las uvas, ganando $ 6.75 la hora. También atendía a la Escuela de Adultos pero preferí atender al programa de FIELD. Mi meta de empleo es la de lograr un major trabajo con mejores beneficios y paga (como mayordomo). En FIELD he aprendido mas Inglés en las pasadas diez semanas que en toda mi vida. Siento que tengo más confianza para hablar en Inglés con la comunidad y mis hijos. Recomendaría a otras personas a que atendieran FIELD porque podrían tener una gran oportunidad de aprender Inglés, tambien podrían mejorar sus habilidades de hablar Inglés en el trabajo”.
Elizabeth S. “Yo fuí a la escuela en Míjico hasta el 5to grado. No pude continuar atendiendo porque mis padres no tenían suficiente dinero para que yo siguiera. Ahora tengo 28 aos y me doy cuenta que nunca es tarde para regresar a la escuela. No tuve la oportunidad cuando era más joven. Estoy interesada en estudiar y quiero continuar mis estudios aqui en FIELD. Estoy casada y tengo dos hijos muy hermosos. Entré en FIELD hace dos meses para aprender Ingles de manera que pueda mejorar. También quiero aprender de manera que pueda ayudar a mis hijos con su tarea. A mí tambien me gustaría convertirme en una ciudadana Americana. Estuve trabajando antes para el empaque de zanahorias y una planta de empaque de uvas, ganando la paga mínima. Me gusta trabajar duro pero mis trabajos no son permanents. De verdad que quiero cambiar mi vida y la de mi familia. Mi meta es la de encontrar un mejor trabajo con una compañía que sea más permanente, a tiempo completo y con beneficios. Lo mejor que he recibido en FIELD es que ahora puedo comunicarme en Inglés y que no me da temor el hablar en Inglés. Le recomiendo el programa de FIELD a todas las personas de manera que ellos también puedan salir adelante en su vida, y tener un mejor futuro.”
