Why Has The US Permitted So Few Ukrainian Refugees To Enter?
Of the 3 million Ukrainian refugees fleeing its war with Russia, and counting, fewer than 700 have been admitted to the United States – not only during the war, but including the 4 months preceding the war as well, while Russian forces were amassing on Ukraine’s borders. This is despite the $4 billion allocated by Congress in aid to Ukraine, $1.4 billion of which was specifically earmarked to help refugees. It is also despite President Biden’s commitment to help resettle Ukrainian refugees in the U.S.One issue is that at present, American families cannot sponsor Ukrainian refugees.
